49th Rose Competition-July 9, 2009

Rose Competition

On July 9th, the yearly international rose competition took place for the 49th time at the lovely Westbroekpark in The Hague. By courtesy of the municipality of The Hague RCTHM was also invited to pass judgment on a variety of some 50 rose species, entered for the competition among more than 350 other abundantly blooming different sorts of roses. The growers came from all parts of the world, all in all 20 different countries. Winners of prizes and certificates came from a.o. Australia, Austria Denmark, France, Germany and Great Britain. All competed for the Golden Rose, the highest possible international award for roses, instituted by the municipality of The Hague.

The very serious judging was performed in the morning, by an international jury. Each different race had to be tested on colour, shape and smell. The attending RCTHM members were also part of this jury!

In the afternoon special sightseeing programmes had been organised. RCTHM chose for a boat trip through part of the town's canals. Back at Westbroekpark tables had been set for an exquisite dinner during which the prizes were handed out.
