Talk by His Excellency Nikola Dimitrov
Michael introduce the speaker of this evening (4th May 2010) His Excellency Nikola Dimitrov who is a fellow Rotarian and is currently serving as ambassador for the Macedonian Republic to the Netherlands. The speaker started by describing his country which got its independence in 1991 and underlined the beautiful landscapes and its multiethnic/multireligious character.
He then went on to explain the, sometime difficult, relations with Greece which at first obstructed its independence and which finally accepted it after a modification of the name and flag. The presentation continued with a brief description of the economic situation in his country and the desire of Macedonia to join the EU which is being discussed since 2009.
He ended the presentation by stating that Macedonia does still have some economic an international relations problems but the country deserves support in its strive to become part of EU and NATO.
The presentation was very well appreciated and our fellow accepted to answer several questions. Folkert gave the vote of thanks and Ehsan presented our speaker with a copy of the "taste for life" cookbook .
