The project aims at helping children in Indonesia born with clubfoot to live a life without disability
Every year more than 5,000 Indonesian children are born with clubfoot. Many will end up in a wheelchair. This doesn’t have to happen.

The project
Sustainable care and care development in Indonesia, for children who are born with disabilities, and who are not receiving care in time.
The need
Annually, many children in Indonesia are born with a disability without getting the help they need. Early treatment should prevent bigger problems, yet thousands of children are falling through the cracks. During the years SteppingStones have worked in Indonesia, they saw parents struggling to navigate a path for their children. That’s why the focus is on:
- Providing access to special braces for 4 to 5 years after an operation.
- Work in partnership with care providers to improve practice.
- Provide access to the weekly drop-in clubfoot clinic.
- Train midwives assistants and midwives students.
In order to provide customised care for each patient, it is important that all those who are involved optimise their expertise (knowledge and skills) and have the capability to apply their expertise in daily situations.
